Nice to read that, as I feel the same being new to the hobby.Daveymancs wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 13:38 pm Thanks so much for all the replies, I feel reassured now that they will be fine to leave while I’m away..
As a side note, I’m really enjoying my fish, much more than I thought possible.
At the beginning, I was worried a few would perish due to my inexperience, but everyone has survived, thrived even, and they have grown quite significantly.
I attribute this to all of the excellent advice I’ve got from the forum. Thank you!
Best holiday fish food
I thought there would be no holiday fish food but there are some easy holiday feeding options for you. You could use commercial vacation feeders, or you can purchase an automatic fish feeder, which can be used daily.

I was away for 4 days/3 nights last month and didn’t do anything different in the run up to going. Last year I was more nervy so I did a couple of bigger feeds Saturday & Sunday evening, then fed early Monday morning again, water change Monday night then away Tue/We’d/Thursday and only home Friday evening.
Both last year and this (fed as usual every other evening) every fish was fine.

Hi all, just to "piggyback" on this I've a 180l with 1 blackmoor, 3 platys and 8 danios. Would I be fine leaving them with no food for 4 days? I know this has been s+answered before but I'm a bit paranoid I'll come back to a fish morgue. Was meaning to ask for the last week and was also about to buy an auto-feeder too.
Add to this just the filter and airpump running with no lights would be OK?
(might setup a WIFI camera looking into the tank to calm my nerves)!!

When my male Bristlenose is looking after eggs he goes without food for 2 weeks and he does that every 3 weeks.

Feed before you go and they’ll be fine. Holiday blocks foul the water and auto feeders have the habit of clogging and/or dropping the lot at once causing a massive spike that would do more damage than leaving them with no food.

I have recently returned from a 5 day break.
I fed the fish before leaving and they were all fine on my return.

if you can get someone you trust to feed them once a week then go for it, otherwise the same applies.
