Tiger barbs changed habits

Hi

Had school of 15 tiger barbs in 1200 tank, doing great for about 5 months then…after a while 4 deaths from fighting, fins torns,upper jaw missing so now down to 10 and then….they are all hiding round back of tank, heavily planted tank, and hardly see thme now even when feeding, saw another today with upper jaw damage and now he is dead, any ideas on why change of behaviour and hope its not some disease that lokks like fight damage, try and upload pic of fish that was alove this morning

On annother note i change 30/40% water every week ankl after last water change they were back to swimming about as normal again for one day only ??

Could it just be maturity? I know they're very aggressive and will pick on any weaker ones when mature. Hence needing as big of a school as possible to distribute any aggression? When you say you have a 1200 tank, is that 1200litre? What else is in there with them?

Could it just be maturity? I know they're very aggressive and will pick on any weaker ones when mature. Hence needing as big of a school as possible to distribute any aggression? When you say you have a 1200 tank, is that 1200litre? What else is in there with them?

Only catfish and couple of panda garras, 6 of them were mature and big when i bought them and several others were younger and now mature

They’re not normally aggressive if the group and the tank are both big enough.
Somethings’s not right. Coming out for a day after a water change suggests a water issue.
What are the pH and nitrates?
How much flow/aeration is there?

Will check tomorrow but i cant see parameters chamging that much in a day

Where did you get the Barbs? The one in the picture is not a domestic tiger barb. The domestic tiger barb is a hybrid, with red pelvic fins, and the stripes are different. Yours looks more like a wild P. tetrazona. Maybe they’re more aggressive...

Amm 0
Nitrate about 80ppm but its always high, it comes out tap at 30/40ppm, just thought i had started using tropica specialised nutrition hmm

Where did you get the Barbs? The one in the picture is not a domestic tiger barb. The domestic tiger barb is a hybrid, with red pelvic fins, and the stripes are different. Yours looks more like a wild P. tetrazona. Maybe they’re more aggressive...

Its a mix thses came from maidenhead

Nitrates are very high. The wild ones will be more sensitive to that.
