It's a bit strange that they should pass so close to there being a load of eggs......unless there was a feeding frenzy and they got a bit bashed if they were the smaller ones.....?

If at first you don't succeed....

Just an observation:
I was running low on algae wafers and picked up some Aquarian 'complete nutrition' algae wafers from LFS (same time as getting the Corydoras aeneus; 11/01/2024).
These algae wafers are basically for the Honeycombe Bristlenoses.
The Corydoras aeneus were happily nibbling on them and ignoring the Cory food.
The Honeycombe Bristlenoses do not like them and ignore them (previously had Hikari algae wafers and scoffed them).
I have ordered some Hikari algae wafers (will be here tomorrow) and have thrown the Aquarian algae wafers away.
Aquarian state on their website:-
Personally I will not be buying the Aquarian brand again.
Interesting read from Hikari about their algae wafers

Aquarian is probably the worst brand out there. Even in the 90s when a lot was known about fish nutrition, one of their claims was that Aquarian foods had been proven to “cause fewer deaths than Supa and Gussie” which were not even proper fish foods. Their reps even had charts showing the results of these experiments.
I don't keep fish, I keep water. Water keeps fish.

Friday 16th February 2024
Today is water change and big clean up day.
The plan is to temporarily remove all the bogwood and syphon up all the Bristlenose poop.
Tidy up all the plants and add new Seachem Flourish Tabs underneath the plants.
Try to count the Bristlenose plecs (should be 4 but only see 3).
Big water change.
Reposition the bogwood.
Give external filter #2 a clean.
Sit back and enjoy my efforts.
This will take a few hours.

Maybe they're all male or all female.
3 are about the same size and 1 is quite big; had them as small juveniles almost 9 months ago.
The aim was to have a pair and return the other two.
I am slightly concerned about one of the Cupid cichlids (Biotodoma cupido) as it has recently spent (last few days) some of the time mid/upper water.
It's the only one that has done this.
It also spends the night sat in a pit in the sand (made by the cichlid).
It is feeding normally and not being bullied by the others.
Water parameters are all fine.

With that description, that sounds very much like Aeneus eggs. Have you a largeish, fat Aeneus among your group, if so that's probably your culprit.

My venezuelans are prolific spawners. They stick them everywhere. However i do thinks its great they feel happy in their environment to do so and everyone else is grateful for eggy brekkie. And i do have a chunky monkey in my group.
