I have more questions if you would be so kind.

Why do I have white fluff on my bog wood that stinks (fungus), I’m guessing. It seems to stink a bit too. I have been trying to kick start my cycle with fish food so of course that will be rotting but my water doesn’t test positive for ammonia yet.

I know I’m being dumb. Hummer me.

We would always suggest using ammonia to cycle a tank as fish food or prawns is a non controlled method and as a result, no idea how much ammonia is being processed at any given time.

Fungus on wood is normal with new bits and usually goes away either on its own or when cycled and stocked fish will nibble on it.

I agree, something like Dr Tims Ammonium Chloride Cycle is ideal.

Yeh well I have clocked the doc Tim’s on Amazon, however all none essential purchases are out for the moment. My car insurance and tax is due in a few weeks and they’ve both gone up quite a bit more than I budgeted for.

If you can find an ammonia that's has no perfume or surfactants then it would be a lot cheaper than the Dr. Tim's. I think Kleen-off used to be ok, not sure about now I haven't checked.....?

Note....Do not be tempted to smell the bottle unless you particularly need your sinuses clearing out.... ;) :D
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it! :D

Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!
