Thinking about getting some otto catfish, what are the ideal tank conditions needed? my snow plec is getting too big for my tank so with heavy heart I'm taking him back after Christmas.

It's a mature tank, soft water, 55lts, lots of green algae on the glass, it doesn't seem to grow anywhere else, so it's not a big tank so how many min?

I’m never happy saying 6-8. It’s a compromise, especially with Otos. There’s recent research that says the old ‘minimum’ of 6 for a shoal isn’t enough. It should be at least a dozen, for any schooling fish, and since Otos live in groups of hundreds at least, I wouldn’t keep less than 20-30. But people keep them in tanks too small for these numbers, so…

Very old video, but does give you an idea of the amount of Otocinclus found together in the wild.
