Yes just tried that now, some of the particles sank, some suspended mid air.

, I tested the tap water and tank water results below.

Just wondering if it could be micro particles coming off the polyfil or the polishing pads, even through I've replaced both with new.

They would look more like clear hairs than anything else.

I think it'd probably particles of gunge from where the pipes were cleaned, although...have you checked the tapwater if it gets worse after water changes (unless that's stirring gunk from the bottom of the tank)?
Never used Purigen before, any recommendations where to buy from, where to place in cannister? and does it come in a media bag?
Thanks in advance

Mine came in a bag, can't remember where I got it, probably local shop.
I just put it right on top of the media so it came out easily when the job was done.
You can recharge it with thin, unperfumed (un-everythinged ;) ) bleach. Don't forget to de-chlorinate before use again. ;)

Do you rinse the Purigen under tap water, then put it in the top tray of the Fluvial 407 filter tray?

I just rinse it in old tank water, not tap.
I only use internals and pop it in the top tray or on top of media depending on which filter it is.....

Not sure how long it takes Purigen to work it's magic, but not seeing any difference 24 hrs on.

Did 50% water change today and skimmed as many particles as I could, water changes seem to make the problem worse as these floating particles always seem to multiple after a water change?

The white particles stay at the surface of the tank and suspended in mid air when when I turn of the filter, no movement at all.
When I switch on the filter / wave maker on the particles just circulate around the tank but rarely seem to get taken in by the intake.
I've tried leaving the wavemaker off, still makes no difference.

I'm now trying an internal filter with floss in to see if that removes the white particles, if it does then maybe a issue with the main filter?

thanks for all the replys and suggestions, I seem to be getting nowhere with this issue, it's very disheartening, any more ideas welcome.

Today's pic below, if you zoom in on pic the white particles can be seen.

The Purigen takes a week or two, depending on how bad the situation is, but if it's not going in the filter it may not be as successful as hoped....

Just had another read through this... Did we rule out that your tap water doesn't have these particles in it?
