FYI I went for this in the end which was more than I wanted to spend but not mega bucks so somewhat of a compromise. It's not wifi controllable but does have and inline controller with 3 modes and variable speed.

It's a nice small footprint and on slowest speed it's inaudible so perfect for my little tank!
