Hi guys!

A very long time since I’ve posted! Hope everyone’s doing ok? 😃

Got couple juvenile honeys today. They are a variant, so I know hard to sex, but after your expertise. I’m hoping for females but I’m not 100%. I think I have one of each but who knows they’re minuscule.

Appreciate your help. Photos of them both, along with one I found online of a female honey. Seem to look similar. She hopes 😅 thanks in advance, Val x

Martin's probably right, but wait until they've settled in and coloured up better.
I've seen males pretend to be females, and females that don't show the dark lateral line much.
The anal fins on both could point to female, but they do need to settle.
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it! :D

Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!

Thanks guys. I already have two mature males, so I was hoping for females to break up my dominant males warpath. He just chases my other one a bit too much. So fingers crossed for females. I picked them based on dorsal and anal fin shaping rather than the lateral lines, because as you’ve mentioned, I’ve seen this in males, so means nothing to me 😅

My dominant male chases the plain juvenile one off, so could be male too. He’s not so bothered by the striped one…Yet 😂

I’ve ordered some very very tall plants to break up the centre of the tank more, so hopefully it’ll help ease things up. Here’s a pic of my dominant male.

Ideally, you want 2 - 3 females to a male with Gouramis and plenty of cover for the females to be able to get away from the dominant male.

Yep. I know. But finding females in lfs at the moment is near impossible. One of the ones I visit has a tank full of male only honeys. Used to be that you couldn’t find any males and now it seems to be females you can’t get 🙈

What’s frustrating is the two males I have were supposed to be 1 male and 1 female but they disguised themselves. So my then sole female had 2 fellas instead of an additional female and one male. Been trying to correct it since… one day eh 😂

Moved a few plants about after my water change. Seems to have calmed Ernie down (dominant male)

Your male in the pic looks to be colouring up nicely. I love the steel blue colour their breasts go.
