Eheim pickup 60 or 160?

Seriously fish is advising I get a better filter for my tank. I have a 56l tank - 60cm x 30cm x 40cm. They’re telling me to get the eheim 160, reviews say it’s a great make of filter so happy to get one, however…

The eheim 160 says it’s for tanks from 60 - 160 litres. Some reviews say it is far too powerful for a 60l tank.

The eheim 60 says it’s for tanks up to 60 litre… which is so close the size of mine so the top end of what it can deal with, and not sure it would be powerful enough.

There doesn’t appear to be an in the middle. Which one do you think I’d be better with?

I've used a EHEIM biopower 160 for a Juwel 60 litre and comes with sponge as well as SUBSTRATpro sintered glass for greater bio mass area for purification bacteria.

Not sure the Eheim 160 has flow control, where as the biopower 160 does have this feature.

Apparently according to reviews you can set it to 1. Fast or 2. Super fast So they added a small piece of sponge which helped soften the flow. I also read of someone removing the sponge and adding ceramic media and then topping up with sponge (or something similar).

The biopower is a bit more money that I’d like to spend right now. I know it’s only a diddy tank but I feel like it’s draining money fast

I just measured and it’s L 58.5cm, W 30cm, H 36cm (height would be more if I included the curved lid)

That's not a bad filter. It's got all what you need, although I'd remove the carbon if your growing plants.

I'd save your money and use the stock filter.

Oh well that’s a relief! I do have a planted tank (though no where near as amazingly designed as some I’ve seen on here!). Do you mean this white part? Should I cut it open and take the carbon out?

It’s hard to see from this photo but I’m not sure the lights are adequate, the 2 middle plants are growing so much better than any of the others, particularly on the right hand side where it seems darker (camera didn’t pick that up though).

You could do that but I'd be inclined to just purchase some cheap filter sponge from eBay and cut it to size.

There is cheap options, just avoid any list as 'biochemical' and must be for aquarium use.
