Done 👍🏻 Im just trying to get a grip of why it’s not processing at the same rate. If I keep adding ammonia at the same rate will it not then keep the nitrite reading up or is it just that the Nitrite is taking it’s time to process?

When ammonia is first added there's no nitrite in the tank so the Ammonia eating bacteria get a head start. The nitrite processing bacteria are also (generally) slower to reproduce than the ammonia processing ones so you get a big build up of nitrite and it takes time for the nitrite "munchers" to catch up. The fact your nitrite is only going up slowly means that the Nitrite bacteria has almost caught up, within a few days it will get ahead and you'll get your double 0's.

You're in the final stretch but it does take a while for the last few generations of bacteria to settle in and give you stable processing. You're doing well, that's only a small amount of ammonia, if any.

So if there’s any visible ammonia reading should I hold off adding any more until it zero’s and let the nitrite do it’s thing in the meantime?

Yeah I reckon Ammonia was somewhere around the 0.25ppm mark.

When using the household stuff I would top up to 2ppm anyway, I can't see that the Dr. Tim's should be any different really. ;)
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it! :D

Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!

I didn’t add any yesterday but measured today and Ammonia has processed (unsurprisingly) and Nitrite lower too.

Hopefully on the home stretch now, will dose ammonia again and see where it’s at tomorrow 🤞
